Leona M. Daede

Leona Martha (Gums) Daede, 90, passed away Monday, March 5 at Eventide Jamestown, ND

Leona was born April 4, 1927 in Medina, ND to Christ E. and Elizabeth (Heiser) Gums. She graduated Valedictorian from Medina High School and Valley City State College with a B.S. in Elementary Education and minors in Library Science and Social Science. She taught 8 ½ years in rural and Jamestown schools. She was the director of the Stutsman County Library for 14 years.

She married Waldemar Daede on December 28, 1952 at the English Lutheran Church in Medina. They lived on a farm in Homer Township SE of Jamestown.

Leona served on the Homer township school board for 5 years and the Jamestown school board for 7 years. She was a member of Homer Homemakers, Willing Workers Homemakers, and a 4-H club leader for 8 years.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Jamestown. Her faith was very important to her. She taught Sunday and Bible School and was a member of a Circle.

Leona is survived by children Jolene (Terry) Baltrusch, Jamestown; Ron (Laura) Daede, Rochester, MN; grandchildren Kristen (Michael) Kosir, Fargo; Brad Baltrusch, Roseville, MN; Rebecca Baltrusch, Fargo; Thomas Daede, Sunnyvale, CA; Elizabeth Daede, Rochester, MN; and great grandchild Colin Kosir, Fargo.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wally, parents, siblings Viola Carlson, Vernon “Bill” Gums, Arlene Kramer, Joyce Olson, and Christ “Jerry” Gums, Jr.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Friday, March 9 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND with Pastor Erik Weber, officiating.

Visitation will be 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, March 8 at Eddy Funeral Home.
