Rachel Christina Metzger, 89, of Jamestown, ND died Saturday, July 12, 2003 at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home in Jamestown.
Rachel Hillius was born November 21, 1913 on the family farm south of Medina, ND the daughter of Theodore and Christina (Hofmann) Hillius. She grew up and attended school in the Medina area. Rachel married Herbert Metzger on November 1, 1936 in Medina. They lived on a farm near Gackle, ND for about 2 years, then moved to a farm near Medina. In 1944, they moved to Jamestown where she worked at the Palace Café, Central Dakota & Bethel 4 Acres Nursing Homes in Jamestown. Herbert died on March 7, 1976. She was a resident at Hi-Acres Manor since March 10, 1998.
Rachel did many crafts and crocheting for her friends and family. She loved her big garden and flowers. Rachel was a memebr of the Ladies Aid Home League and the Jamestown Evangelical Church, where she also attended Sunday School.
She is survived by five sons and one daughter, Wilbert (Laura) of Seattle, WA, Dennis (Kathy) of Molalla, OR, Donald (Donna) of Littleton, CO, Darrell (Judy) of Jamestown, ND, Roger (Jean) of Seattle, WA, and Darlene (Lyle ""Butch"") Whitney of Ypsilanti, ND; 15 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; one sister, Erna (Joe) Gross of Cedar Springs, MI; three sisters-in-law, Helen Hillius of Jamestown, ND, Emma Hillius of Medina, ND, and Rachel Schock of Jamestown, ND; and one brother-in-law, Ted Metzger of Billings, MT.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one infant daughter; and two brothers, Raimond and Theodore.
Funeral Service: 1:30PM Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at the Jamestown Evangelical Church, 402 14th Avenue NE, Jamestown with Rev. David Fisher officiating.
Visitation: Tuesday, July 15, 2003 from 9:00AM to 5:00PM at the Eddy Funeral Home.
Prayer Service: 6:30PM Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at Hi-Acres Memorial Chapel.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.
