JAMESTOWN, North Dakota 58401
Shirley Jeanne (Stenson) Miller, 91, of Jamestown, ND, passed away with family by her side on Friday, September 27, 2019.
Shirley Jeanne was born on November 3, 1927 in Bellingham, WA to Joseph and Kalma (Thompson) Stenson. The family moved to Grand Forks, ND where Jeanne grew up attending elementary school, high school and the University of North Dakota. She graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1949, receiving a Teaching Degree in Home Economics. While in college, Jeanne met James Jerome “Jim” Miller who also grew up in Grand Forks, but went away to fight in WWII returning home after the war and attended UND on the GI Bill. Jeanne taught school for a year until Jim finished up his education. Jim got a job with Standard Oil and the first assignment was in Mankato, MN where they started their family and Jeanne began her career as a homemaker. There were stops in Worthington, MN; Mitchell, SD; Madison, SD; Chamberlin, SD; and Jamestown, ND – their final stop in 1972. In 1980, Jeanne and Jim bought an Orange Julius franchise and opened the store in the new Buffalo Mall. Jeanne managed the store for 22 years. Along with the hot dogs and hamburgers, the store was well known for their nachos!
Jeanne loved cooking, sewing, doing the daily crossword puzzle, having coffee with friends, spending time sitting on the deck while enjoying the birds and the squirrels, and caring for her family.
Jeanne is survived by James Jeffrey Miller, Jamestown; Pamela (Christopher) Miller, Honolulu, HI; Rebecca (Gerry) D’Amour, Jamestown, ND; Melissa (Keith) Miller-Radke, Fargo, ND; and Amy McGregor, Minneapolis, MN; eight grandchildren, Austin (Leyla) McGregor, Laguna Niguel, CA; Carley McGregor, Minneapolis, MN; Marlo (Jason) McGregor, Minneapolis, MN; Alexander McGregor, Minneapolis, MN; Levi (Liz) Jorgensen, Minneapolis, MN; Chelsea (Chris) Dunshee, Kalispell, MT; Nathan (Cat) Steckler, Jamestown, ND; Evan Steckler, Kalispell, MT; and seven great-grandchildren, Sierra McGregor, Makayla McGregor, Malcomm McGregor, Maryiam McGregor, Aria McGregor, Jayden Jorgensen, and Norah Jorgensen.
