Adeline Paulson

December 20, 1918 — March 31, 2008

Adeline Paulson, long-time Adrian area resident, passed away March 31, 2008, at St. Rose Care Center in LaMoure, ND. She was 89. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Garden, Jamestown, ND on Friday, April 4 at 9:30 am, with funeral services to follow at 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Adrian with Pastor Thomas Puffe officiating.
Adeline Edna Caroline Elizabeth Miller was born December 20, 1918, to Fred and Ida (Koessel) Miller at their farm near Adrian, ND. Since this was during the height of the great flu epidemic, Adeline's mother believed that she was a special gift. Adeline attended country school in Saratoga Township, and later worked for neighbors, doing household work and caring for children. She cooked at the Adrian School. Adeline farmed with her parents and cared for her mother. She saved their calves and horses from a fire in their barn on the day of her bridal shower.
Adeline was married to Cleo Paulson at Marion, ND, on February 1, 1946, after waiting for him to come home from World War II. They lived for a brief time in LaMoure, then settled on her parents' farm at Adrian. Adeline was a true farmer's wife; herding cattle, fixing fence, raising hogs and chickens, driving trucks and tractors, and milking cows with Cleo until they gradually retired. After suffering through the dust and erosion of the 1930's, she made sure that lots of trees and shelterbelts were planted on their farm. In 1978, the Miller family tradition continued when her nephews Kent and Lee began to farm the land. In 1993 the Paulsons moved to Jamestown, enjoying city life and their new neighbors.
Adeline was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church at Adrian. She was a dedicated Ladies Aid and Ruth Circle member, acting as treasurer for many years. She loved birds, flowers and music, and could play the piano by ear. Adeline enjoyed shopping, traveling and air-conditioning. She was a good cook, best known for her cinnamon rolls and sugar cookies. She was an excellent seamstress, making most of her own and her daughter's clothes. She delighted in spoiling her grandsons and adored her great-granddaughters.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and David Anderson, Britton, SD; her grandsons Benjamin (and his wife Mindy) Anderson, Watertown, SD, and Zachary Anderson, Britton, SD; her great-granddaughters Kailey and Cloe; her sisters-in-law, Edna Miller, Adrian, and Jeanette Paulson, LaMoure, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Adeline was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on December 17, 2007; her sisters, Elsie and Anna; and her brothers, Otto and William.
