Adolph Alfred Weight, 91, LaMoure, North Dakota, formerly of Jamestown, North Dakota, died Monday, August 31, 2009 at St. Rose Care Center in LaMoure.
Adolph was born April 4, 1918 in Marion, ND, the son of Jakob and Maria (Wuttke) Weight. He was raised on the family farm for the first 25 years of his life. On February 2, 1944 Adolph enlisted in the US Navy. Upon his discharge in January 1946 Adolph returned to North Dakota and worked for Otter Tail Power Co. in Jamestown until 1974. On May 22, 1943 Adolph married Hattie Boelter at St. John's parsonage in Jamestown. They moved to Milbank, South Dakota where he worked as a Control Room Operator for Otter Tail until his retirement in 1980. Hattie died June 13, 2000.
Adolph's hobbies include woodworking and making bird houses, birdwatching, yardwork, crossword puzzles, fishing and watching baseball. He was a very devoted and loving husband and a caring dad who was admired by his sons. Adolph had a servant's heart and volunteered many hours a week at his church, St. John's Lutheran Church. He delivered Meals on Wheels, newspapers, and visiting with the sick and shut-ins. He was also a Scoutmaster for six years.
Adolph is survived by two sons, Larry (Jani) Weight, Anoka, MN and Jim (Candice) Weight, Jamestown; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Wilfred Weight, Seattle, WA; and two sisters, Leona Day, Seattle, WA and Francis Reid, Maple Grove, MN.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents; four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 3, 2009 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with Pastor Harlan Kaden officiating.
Visitation: 1:00 to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, ND, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, North Dakota
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Jamestown Hospital Hospice.
