Agnes Ermatinger

October 19, 1915 — December 1, 2010

Agnes Ermatinger, 95, Jamestown, North Dakota, formerly of Wimbledon ND, died Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Eventide at Hi-Acres Manor in Jamestown.

Agnes Caroline Pearson was born October 19, 1915 in Wimbledon, the daughter of Edgar and Hilda (Nilsen) Pearson. She received her education from the Clementsville and Wimbledon schools. Agnes was 16 when her mother died after a long illness. She was a great help to her father on the farm.

She and Ed Ermatinger were married on August 2, 1941. They lived in an apartment in the Wimbledon hotel for a few years before purchasing the little white house on the northwest side of Wimbledon that they would call home for over 50 years.

She was bookkeeper for their business, Ed’s L.P. Gas, and also worked for a time as a bank teller at Farmers & Merchants Bank and later as bookkeeper for Farmers Union Oil in WImbledon. They sold Ed's L.P. Gas and retired in January of 1985.

Ed Ermatinger died in April 2001, and Agnes continued to live in Wimbledon, tending to her garden, feeding the birds and squirrels, and showering her neighbors and friends with kindnesses. She was known for her opera fudge candy, a Wimbledon specialty she had learned to make during the time she lived in the Wimbledon Hotel.

In 2007 Agnes moved to Heritage Center in Jamestown, then lived briefly with her niece in Wimbledon in 2009 before residing at Hi-Acres until her death.

Agnes was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Wimbledon, the LaBraasch-Altringer Post of the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Wimbledon Seniors.

She is survived by a niece, Mary Beth Olombel of Wimbledon (Yves Olombel, Frontignan, France) and several cousins in Canada.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister, Dorothy Simenson; and dear friends Eileen Greshik and Louverne Radke.
