Agnes Helen Kilsdonk was born April 20, 1915 Kaukauna, WI, the daughter of Martin and Elizabeth (Williamsen) Kilsdonk. She moved with her family to New Rockford, ND in 1917 and in 1920, after her father died, they moved to Jamestown, ND. Her mother married Tony Gaedtke Sr. in 1922 and he became an important influence in Agnes' life. She attended St. John's Academy through the eighth grade when she began working to help support the family. Education has always been one of her highest priorities and she engaged in an intense self-education program throughout her life, reading constantly with a focus on natural and political sciences. She worked as a cook and in the laundry at Trinity Hospital and as a housekeeper for families in the area. On April 11, 1935, she married Henry G. Skroch at the St. John's Academy Chapel in Jamestown, ND and they settled on the family farm in Gray Township, near Spiritwood Lake. Henry died May 30, 1984 and Agnes continued to farm with her son and later cared for her grandchildren, Jessica and Peter, so that her daughter-in-law Rose could help on the farm.
Agnes was a member of The Basilica of St. James, Jamestown, ND, a lifetime member of St. James Tabernacle Society and was a member of St. Elizabeth Circle. She was a former member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Wimbledon, ND; a member of the Jamestown Hospital Auxiliary; the VFW Auxiliary; a Homemaker's Club; a Hobby Club and a former Gray Township Treasurer.
