Alice Berstler

Alice Mae Berstler, 99, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Sunday, February 28, 2010 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown.

Alice was born July 2, 1910 in Streeter, ND, the daughter of Edward and Laura (Ueland) Berstler. She grew up in Streeter and graduated from high school in Chisholm , MN in 1928. She received her standard teaching certificate from Valley City State Teacher' College in 1932. Alice taught in schools in Logan and Stutsman counties and at Walcott for 10 years before moving to Tillamook, OR in 1941, where she taught school for 10 years. She completed her bachelor's degree at Western Oregon State College in Monmouth, OR in 1952. She was a teacher in Roseburg, OR, for a short time before teaching at Gilbert Elementary School, David Doulas School District in Portland, OR for 20 years. She retired in 1972 and moved to Sequim, WA and in 1980, she moved to Jamestown.

Alice was a member of North Dakota and Oregon Teacher Associations and Delta Kappa Gamma.

Alice is survived by a sister-in-law, Doris Berstler, Jamestown; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister; and two brothers.
