Alice Eslinger Herrmann, 92, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at her home, as was her lifelong wish.
Alice Eslinger was born August 28, 1916 near Fredonia, ND, the daughter of Christian and Pauline (Burkle) Eslinger. She grew up on the family farm, the oldest of eleven children. She attended school in Fredonia and Napoleon, ND and attained her teaching certificate at Ellendale Normal College. Alice taught in Dickey county, where she met and married Solomon Herrmann on July 21, 1940 in Fredonia. They lived and farmed near Kulm and she enjoyed being an accompanist for men's choirs and the Herrmann Brothers' Quartet, as well as singing in the Congregational Church choir. They moved to Jamestown in 1954 where she began an active membership in the Evangelical United Brethern Church, later the St. Paul's United Methodist Church, where she made lifelong friends. She loved singing in the choir and with many small groups. Alice was an employee of the Anne Carlsen Center for Children, where she cared and loved many children and was honored for 25 years of service by the school. She was a lifelong gardener. In her later life, she was able to do the things she loved --- long walks, coffee with neighbors and striving to ""make everything good.""
Alice is survived by two daughters, Janet (David) North, Alamogordo, NM and Barbara (Dan) Hughes, Winona, MN; three sisters, Viola Konrad, Kulm, ND, Grace Schmitt, Jamestown and Lou Molinaro, Mountain City, NV; and three brothers, LeMar Eslinger, Grand Junction, CO, James Eslinger, Lincoln, NE and Delino Eslinger, Georgetown, TX.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three sisters; and two brothers.
