Alice Martel

Alice Martel, 87, Medina, North Dakota died Saturday, February 11, 2006 at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home, Jamestown.

Alice Graf was born March 17, 1918 in Newbury Township to Rudolph and Eva (Oberlander) Graf. She was raised in rural Stutsman County and attended school in Newbury Township. On March 23, 1938 Alice married Reinhold Martel in Jamestown. They farmed until 1949 in rural Stutsman County. They moved into Medina where Alice enjoyed being a homemaker. Reinhold passed away in 1953. Alice worked for one and half years at Medina Drug Store and 21 years at Borth & Speidel Department Store in Medina. She retired in October of 1976. Alice lived in Medina until 2000 when she then entered Rock of Ages in Jamestown. She later moved to Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home.

Alice was an active member of English Lutheran Church in Medina, the ALCW and church choir for many years. She was also a member of the Sunshine Homemakers Club, American Legion Auxiliary and two birthday clubs. She enjoyed quilting for people all over the country. Alice was always willing to do favors for others whenever she could and tried to make others happy.

Alice is survived by two sons, Curt (Diana) Martel, New Richmond, OH and Rand (Sandra) Martel, Boise, ID; four grandsons, Christopher of Minneapolis, MN, Peter of Bemidji, MN, Loren (Terra) of Upper Sandusky, OH and McClean of Boise, ID; two granddaughters, Eleisha and Rachel, both of Boise, ID; two great grandchildren, Cameren and Alessandra, Upper Sandusky, OH; two step-granddaughters, Katie Brennan, Independence, KY and Anne Hess, Cincinnati, OH; one step-grandson, Lucas Gallman, Cincinnati, OH; four step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Alvin (Alice) Graf, Jamestown, Norman (LaNora) Graf, Bismarck, Jim (Mary) Graf, Fergus Falls, MN; two sisters, Lucille (Jim) Shepard, Sylvania, OH and Margaret Sam, Jamestown, ND; one sister-in-law, Helen Graf, Toledo, OH and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband one daughter, six brothers and one sister.

Funeral Service: 10:00 AM, Friday, February 17, 2006 at the English Lutheran Church in Medina with Rev. Darrell Schultz officiating.

Visitation: 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, February 16, 2006 at the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown, North Dakota.

Burial: Medina Cemetery, Medina, North Dakota.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to English Lutheran Church in Medina, ND.
