Allen Doyle Schnell, 78, Jamestown, North Dakota died Monday, June 2, 2008 at Jamestown Hospital.
Allen was born September 2, 1929 at Edgeley, ND, the son of Clarence and Minnie (Proctor) Schnell. He grew up on the family farm and attended grade school at Willowbank Township No. 1, later graduated from Edgeley High School in 1947. Upon graduation he entered the US Navy, took his basic training at Great Lakes training station and from there was sent to Norfolk, Virginia Naval Station. He had to wait for the new heavy cruiser ships to be finished and building of the Newport News and then was shipped out overseas until his discharge on May 20, 1949. He returned to the farm where he farmed with his dad until 1968. He married Darlene Toay in 1950 and they were blessed with four wonderful children. After his divorce in 1968 he moved to Jamestown and went into the construction business fulltime on his own and in 1997 he retired due to health problems. In 1978, Allen married Alice Weisenburger in Houston, Texas.
Allen was a member of the American Legion; Eagles; and the First United Methodist Church. He loved to hunt, play cards, and fish with his best buddies.
Allen is survived by his wife, Alice, Jamestown; three daughters, Kathie (Richard) Weikle, Minneapolis, MN, Bonnie (Brady) Hart, California, and Darla (Doug) East, Bozeman, MT; one son, Jerry (Sue) Schnell, Mandan, ND; two stepsons, Jeff (Theresa) Scheer, Jamestown and Greg Scheer, Idaho Falls, ID; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and two brothers, Duane (Rose Ellen) Schnell, Kansas City, MO, and Kenneth (Delores) Schnell, Houston, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Memorial Service: 11:00 AM, Friday, June 6, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church, Jamestown, with Rev. Kenrad Pederson officiating.
