Alma White

May 17, 1919 — October 28, 2014

Alma White passed away October 28, 2014 at Hi-Acres Care Center in Jamestown, ND.

She was born May 17, 1919 on the family farm near Watford City ND to Ole and Janna (Karlstad) Johnsrud, the youngest of their eight children. Alma loved music. She was pianist for Garden Lutheran Church in her early years. She and her father often enjoyed an evening playing traditional Scandinavian music. All through her life the sounds of music put a far-away-look in her eyes and a smile on her face.

In 1943 she moved with her parents to Watford City and worked at a local pharmacy. She married Miles White in (1946). They moved to Williston where Miles was employed with the North Dakota Agricultural Extension Service. Later they moved to Edgeley ND to manage the NDSU Extension Service Experiment Station. Edgeley became their "hometown" as the children progressed from elementary school to high school graduation. Later, Miles and Alma moved to Towner ND, then to Jamestown for retirement years. For a time, she worked at the Bethel Bible Book Store and Western Gear in Jamestown.

Alma always remained active in her church and truly loved her Lord and Savior. She maintained a circle of friends who shared the gospel through their lives. Her last years were spent at Rock of Ages Home and Hi-Acres Care Center in Jamestown.

She is survived by four children: Jann Wicks, Fargo; Miles White (Carol), Canby CA; Mark White (Kimberly), Auburn CA; and Bob White (Celena), Pahrump NV.; four grandchildren: Carlie Smith, Joseph Smith, Andrew White, Taylor White (Natalia) and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by one son, Timothy, her husband, parents and seven brothers and sisters (Oley, Christine, John, Andrew, Bertha, Olga and Agnes).

Funeral services will be held on November 3rd at 10:30 at Atonement Lutheran Church in Jamestown, with Pastor Scott Block, officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Sunday, November 2 at Eddy Funeral Chapel. Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens of Jamestown. Memorials will be directed to the Hospice Program at Jamestown Hospital.
