Alona ""Sis"" Nieswaag, 90, of Jamestown, ND, formerly of Pettibone, ND, died Friday, January 9, 2004 at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.
Alona Luverne Friese was born July 13, 1913 in Mapleton, ND the daughter of Fred and Amanda (Sanberg) Friese. In 1916 the family moved to Pettibone, ND where she attended school. She spent two years in Los Angeles, CA and one year in Salem, OR before moving back to Pettibone. Alona married Bert Nieswaag on June 23, 1942 in Woodworth, ND. They made their home in Pettibone. She wrote for the Pettibone News for over 30 years. Alona was a Sunday school teacher for many years at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was a member.
Alona is survived by her husband, Bert Nieswaag, Pettibone, ND; one son, Dennis (Phyllis) Nieswaag of Pettibone, ND; two grandsons, Darcy (Jody) Nieswaag, Jamestown, ND and Darren (Stephanie Lang) Nieswaag of Mandan, ND.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Stanley.
Funeral Service: 10:30AM Wednesday, January 14, 2004 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Pettibone, ND with Rev. Mark Schlamann officiating.
Visitation: Tuesday, January 13, 2004 from 9:00AM to 9:00PM at the Eddy Funeral Home.
Burial: Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Pettibone, ND.
