Alton \""Al\"" Deutscher, 79, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.
Al was born August 28, 1930 in Gackle, ND, the son of Gustaf J. and Amelia (Hust) Deutscher. He grew up on the family farm and attended rural Gackle schools. Al married Ella Gumke on November 12, 1950 in Gackle, and they had one daughter, Germaine. They farmed northwest of Gackle until 1962 when they moved to Jamestown. He worked for Melland Builders until 1980, at which time Al started Al's Overhead Doors, which he continued to own and operate until his death.
Al's hobbies included fishing, camping, hunting and he enjoyed playing his accordian.
Al is survived by his wife, Ella, Jamestown; one grandson, Jason (Cristin) Gums, Red Lake Falls, MN: three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Alma Becker, Jamestown, Adeline Giest, Fargo, ND and Arlene (Gary) Geisinger, Jamestown.
He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Germaine Gums, who died February 28, 2002.
