Alvin Miska

May 6, 1936 — February 10, 2004

Alvin Glen Miska, 67, Jamestown, North Dakota died Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at the VA Medical Center in Fargo after a courageous battle with cancer. Alvin was born May 6, 1936 in Carrington, ND the son of Arthur and Rose (Harding) Miska, McHenry, ND. He grew up in the Bordulac, Grace City and McHenry, ND areas. Alvin attended schools in McHenry and New Rockford. Alvin served in the US Navy from August 16, 1954 until July 9, 1958. During his peacetime enlistment he was aboard the USS Prairie and the USS Dixie. He married Marva Lou Heyd on February 14, 1960 in Jamestown. He was employed at Domek's Lawn Service and the North Dakota State Hospital in Jamestown, then Beyers Cement in Valley City and later Northern Improvement in Fargo. In 1970 he began working for Rueben Scherbenske & Son, Jamestown, then later by Nick Scherbenske & Son until October 2003. Working was his pleasure in life along with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Alvin was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown, Post Commander of Ernest DeNault-Robertson Post 14 American Legion and Past Chef De Gare of Voiture 40 & 8, Jamestown and a member of the American Legion Color Guard.

Alvin is survived by his wife, Marva, Jamestown, one son, Michael Miska, Jamestown, four daughters, Sandra Robinson, St. Joseph, MO; Patricia (Don) Speck, Billings, MT; Gail (Wayne) Steckler, Jamestown and Tamara Dallmann, Minneapolis, MN, one brother, Marvin (Evie) Miska, Jamestown, two sisters, Susan (Gary) Overby, Pingree, ND and Sheila (David) Neumann, Fessenden, ND, 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, many nieces & nephews and pets, Chester and Mingus.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister and many aunts and uncles.

Funeral Service: 10:00 AM, Thursday, February 12, 2004 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown with Rev. Doug Opp officiating.

Visitation: One hour before the service at the church.

Burial: North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, North Dakota.
