Alvin Plienis

Alvin \""Al\"" Plienis, 85, formerly of Jamestown, North Dakota died Monday, November 1, 2010 at the Veterans Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota, after a long struggle with cancer.

Al was born September 30, 1925 in Napoleon, ND, the son of Edward and Barbara (Oberlander) Plienis. He attended school in the Napoleon area. Al served in the US Navy from October 1944 to February 1950. On December 27, 1947, Al married Helen McDaniel. There were three children, Ronald, Donald and Debra. In 1970, Al married Betty Creager. And in 1986 Al married Bea Boice. He was a car salesman for many years and a bus driver.

Al enjoyed traveling and reading, especially about history.

Alvin is survived by two sons, Ronald (Cheryle) Plienis, Edgemere, MD and Donald Plienis, Hubert, NC; one daughter, Debra Boes, Tampa, FL; one stepson, Scott Creager, VA; seven grandchildren, Ron, Jason, Lesley, Lindsay, Wendy, Melissa and Michael; one step-grandchild, Heather; two brothers, Wilbert (Ellene) Plienis, Colton, SD and Calvin (JoAnn) Plienis, Sioux Falls, SD; two sisters, Frances Diede, Jamestown and Betty (Tom) Wagner, Sioux Falls, SD; and a special friend, Helen Wang, Fargo, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Marvin and Raymond; and five sisters, Loretta, Rose, Luella, Aldina and Darlene.
