Ancel Marsh, 88, of Jamestown, ND, died Friday, July 3, 2009, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown, ND.
Ancel Marsh was born April 12, 1921 in Shevlin, MN, the son of Nicholas and Pearl (Willard) Marsh. The family moved to Scobey, MT, then to Barton, ND where Ancel received his education. Ancel married Priscilla Solberg on November 1, 1940 in Rugby, ND. They made their home in Willow City, ND until 1942. Then they moved to Burbank, CA where they lived until 1944. Ancel entered the US Army at Ft. Snelling, MN on June 22, 1944. They lived in Texas and Kansas while he served his country, and Ancel was discharged as a private first class at Camp Butner, NC on November 3, 1945. In 1945, they moved back to Willow City, then later to Sanish, ND, where he ranched. The family later moved to Rolla, ND. In 1953, they moved to McHenry, ND, where he farmed. In 1961, they moved to Jamestown where Ancel worked for the North Dakota State Hospital, then for Jamestown Terminal Elevator, then various other elevators, retiring from Buchanan Elevator.
Ancel loved horses.
Ancel is survived by one son, Timothy (JoAnn) Marsh, Jamestown; two daughters, Patricia (Douglas) Pieske and Corrine Oberlander, both of Jamestown; one son-in-law, Andrew Rohwedder, Dickinson, ND; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Darrell (Helen) Marsh, Tower, MN and Raymond (Marilyn) Marsh, Isanti, MN; four sisters, Letha (Earl) Lee, Williston, ND, Velma Hansen, Minot, ND, Lois (Rodney) Stroud, Dalton, MN, and Cleo (Frank) Kent, St. Genevieve, MO; two sisters-in-law, Mary Marsh, Hotchkiss, CO and Elsie Marsh, Minot, ND; one brother-in-law, Kent Johnson, Aurora, CO; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, Nicholas John; one daughter, Kathy Rohwedder; one great-grandson, Dustin Jacobson; three brothers, Merle, Glen, and Lyle; and one sister, Gladys Johnson.
Funeral Service: 3:00PM, Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.
Visitation: 1:00PM - 8:00PM, Monday, July 6, 2009 at Eddy Funeral Home.
Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.
