Anne R. Kooy

March 23, 1930 — July 9, 2019

Anne R. Kooy, 89, Jamestown, ND, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, July 9, at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.

Anne was born March 23, 1930 to James M. and Iris (Lewis) Rudy in Crawfordsville, IN.

Anne attended elementary school in various towns in Indiana; her father worked with the soil conservation service, so her family relocated every two years. She graduated from Crawfordsville High School in May 1947. During her high school years, she worked at a drug store soda fountain and did some babysitting. Before enrolling in college, she was employed for a year at the local telephone company. In 1948 she enrolled at DePauw University, Greencastle, IN, graduating in 1952 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She later moved to Hammond, IN, where she was employed by Inland Steel (East Chicago, IN) as a personnel testing clerk.

While working at Inland Steel, she met Ronald W. Kooy of Lansing, IL. They were married April 30, 1955 in Crawfordsville, IN, and made their home in Lansing. Following the birth of her first child, Anne became a full-time stay-at-home mother. Anne was an active member of the Grace Reformed Church: singing in the choir; participating in the various women’s groups; directing the church nursery. Together with Ronald, Anne opened her home as a foster parent and as an adoptive parent through the Evangelical Child and Family Agency (Wheaton, IL). In November 1989 Anne and Ronald moved to Plymouth, IN, becoming members of the Plymouth Wesleyan Church. They moved again in 2009 to Jamestown, ND, to be closer to family. They were members of Temple Baptist Church.

Anne enjoyed sewing, knitting and reading. Every Christmas she knitted sweaters for each of her family members. She also knitted over 400 Christmas stockings for family, friends, as well as at the request of others. She made numerous afghans, hats and baby clothes. Anne loved children, especially little children. Children loved her, too. She was a committed wife and mother. She exemplified the qualities of discipline, diligence and dependability. Her children learned to know and follow Jesus Christ through her reading Bible stories and through her godly example.

In March 2014 Anne became a resident of Ave Maria Village. She loved to read aloud; she especially enjoyed the devotional readings provided by the nursing home.

Anne was preceded in death by her husband Ronald, a sister (Judith), a son (Sam) and a son-in-law (Brian).

She is survived by two daughters, Kristy (Randy) Jaspers, Jamestown, ND and Susan Barkwell (Scottsdale, AZ); two sons, Darrell (Kathie) Kooy, Aurora, IL and Neil (Kelly) Kooy, Jonesborough, TN; 13 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; one sister, Patsy Pattison (Indianapolis, IN).

Memorial Service: 1:30 p.m., Saturday, August 31, Good Shepherd Chapel, Ave Maria Village.

Arrangements are in the care of Williams Funeral Home, Jamestown.
