Arlys Carlson, 81, Jamestown, ND, died Friday, August 29, 2008 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown, ND.
Arlys Eleanor Juliette Hanson was born May 7, 1927 in Valley City, ND, the daughter of Arthur C. and Palma J. (Hendrickson) Hanson. She was raised on a farm in Nelson Township, Barnes County and attended the neighborhood schools through 8th grade. She briefly attended high school in Fingal, ND and Valley City, ND before moving to a farm in Thordensjold Township, west of Nome, ND in March of 1943. She graduated from Nome High School in 1946. In 1950, she began attending Valley City State Teachers' College, graduating in 1956 with what was then known as a Standard degree, after one year and four summers of college. She taught in rural schools in Barnes and Stutsman Counties. While teaching in Sydney Township, south of Jamestown, ND, she met a neighboring farmer, Elmer Carlson. They were married on December 22, 1958. Elmer passes away in November of 1992. Arlys continued to live on the farm until 2006 when she moved to Jamestown, ND.
Arlys' interests included reading, writing, music, electronics, animals and attending auction sales. She attended the Baptist Church.
Survivors include aunts and an uncle in Minneapolis, MN and Arizona and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Arlys was buried on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at Mount Hope Cemetery, Edgeley, ND. No services were held.
