Arnold Schmidt, 80, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Friday, November 12, 2004 at his home in Jamestown.
Arnold was born January 31, 1924 in Woodworth, North Dakota, the son of John and Emma (Rollwitz) Schmidt. He grew up on the family farm northwest of Woodworth in the New Home area. He attended rural school there and farmed with his father. He married Abbie Sayler on June 1, 1949 in Jamestown. He continued to farm with his father and later purchased the farm from his father, living there until 1967. They moved to Devils Lake and Arnold attended Lake Region Junior College and began work as a civil engineer. They moved to Minot and he worked for the ND State Highway Department in Minot and later in Valley City, ND. In 1968, they moved to Jamestown and he attended Bismarck Junior College in 1969, studying electronics. Upon his return to Jamestown, Arnold owned and operated Schmidt's TV & Radio Repair. He was also an auctioneer for many years. He retired in 2001.
Arnold was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church where he took pride in operating the sound system.
He enjoyed electronics, fishing, collecting antiques and radios, and was active on the computer.
Arnold is survived by his wife, Abbie of Jamestown, four children, Merlin (Renee) Schmidt and Marlys (Jerome) Grondahl, both of Minot, ND and Marlow (Marcella) Schmidt and Mark (Mary) Schmidt, both of Jamestown, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Olga Glade.
Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Thursday, November 18, 2004 at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Jamestown with Pastor David Stuart officiating.
Visitation: 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, November 17, 2004 at the Eddy Funeral Home.
Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, North Dakota.
