Arnold L. Swanson, 83, Jamestown, North Dakota died Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Central Dakota Village Nursing Home in Jamestown, where he resided for a brief period.
Arnold was born December 15, 1924 in Bismarck, ND, the son of Floyd and Mabel (Lowry) Swanson. He went to a country school and finished his education in Jamestown. Arnie served in the U.S. Army. He purchased his farm in 1945 and lived there throughout his life. On August 10, 1947, Arnie married Alice Berner in Jamestown.
He was a lifelong farmer and participated in a variety of conservation programs.
He served on both the Water Resource Board and the Woodbury Township Board for many years. Arnie had great enthusiasm for working with 4-H youth. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jamestown, served on a number of church boards and really enjoyed working with the youth in the church.
He liked to hunt upland game and waterfowl, raise game birds, plant trees and generally enjoyed nature and God's creation.
Arnie is survived by his wife, Alice, of Jamestown; one daughter, Debra (Raymond ""Larry"") Lee, Myrtle Creek, OR; one son, Tim (Susan) Swanson, Sauk Centre, MN and one granddaughter, Kayla.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
Funeral Service: 10:00 AM, Saturday, March 22, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church, Jamestown with Rev. Kenrad Pedersen officiating.
Visitation: 2:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, March 21, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown, ND.
Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, ND
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Jamestown Hospital Hospice.
