Arthur Rudolph

Arthur Rudolph, 90, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Thursday, June 18, 2009 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown.

Art was born at his parent?s farm near Napoleon to Matt and Sophia (Kost) Rudolph on September 17, 1918 as a first generation Rudolph. He was drafted into the Army on March 18, 1942 and was part of D-Day when the 347th Infantry, 90th Division crossed the English Channel and stormed Normandy Beach in France. Art was also part of the Battle of the Bulge and received the Bronze Star Medal for completing a mission across France where few men survived. He was discharged October 24, 1945.

After returning from the Army, he worked on his parent?s farm. During this time, Art met Florence Dockter and they were married in Venturia, ND on October 25, 1948. They began their career farming near the Rudolph farmstead and later purchased it. Outside a busy farm schedule, Art and Florence traveled abroad to Europe, China, Japan, S. Korea, Greece, Russia, Egypt, Bermuda, the Yucatan, Jamaica, Cancun, Mexico and throughout the US including Alaska. Also, he was an active member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion and enjoyed playing cards, dancing and spending time with family. Farming was his passion; however they retired in 1983 and moved to Jamestown. He spent his retirement years maintaining rental property along with a variety of other past times.

He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Jocelyn and Virgil Iszler of Fargo, ND and Glennaris and Jeffrey Carter of Chandler, AZ; two sisters, Adeline Dockter of Sioux Falls, SD and Helen Weisz of Norfolk, NE; four grandchildren, Sara and Jenna Iszler and Bryce and Collin Carter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters and 4 brothers.

Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Monday, June 22, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church, Jamestown, with Rev. Kenrad Pederson and Ken Schook officiating.

Visitation: 2:00 to 7:00 PM, Sunday, June 21, 2009 at the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown, North Dakota.

Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Sunday, June 21, 2009 at the Eddy Funeral Home.

Burial with military honors at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.
