Arthur Schauer

March 28, 1918 — May 25, 2008

Arthur ""Art"" Schauer, 90, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Sunday, May 25, 2008 at Jamestown Hospital.

Art was born March 28, 1918 in Jamestown, the son of William and Christina (Kercher) Schauer, Sr. He graduated from Jamestown High School, then went to work at the Eddy Furniture Store and Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown. On June 20, 1942 Art enlisted in the US Navy and was Gunners Mate Second Class aboard the USS Baltimore CA68. He was discharged on December 20, 1945 and returned to Jamestown. On August 10, 1947 Art married June A. Blake in Jamestown. He worked for many years at the First James River National Bank in the insurance area. He retired in 1988.

Art was a proud charter member of the Jamestown Choralaires for 53 years. He also enjoyed singing with the Gardenette choir every week. He loved to sing and dance. He was also an ice skater and would skate at the ND Winter Show every year and he also taught ice skating.

Art was an avid sports fan and participant. He enjoyed golf, football, hunting, fishing and especially baseball, of which he was inducted into the ND Baseball Hall of Fame.

He was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Jamestown.

Art is survived by his two sons, Dr. David Schauer, El Paso, TX and Paul (Janet) Schauer, Pettibone, ND; and many dear friends who recall and share many stories of ""the good old days.""

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Fred, William, Jr. and Albert; and two sisters, Mary (Mrs. Ralph) Miller and Martha (Mrs. Norman) Thomson.

Funeral Service: 10:00 AM, Friday, May 30, 2008 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with Pastor Dennis Ellingsen officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursday, May 29, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.

Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, North Dakota.
