Arthur E. Wolff

Arthur "Art" E. Wolff, 86, Jamestown, ND, died Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Essentia Healthcare in Fargo, due to complications of lung cancer.

Arthur Elmer Wolff was born January 29, 1926 at Robinson, ND, the son of Fred and Bertha (Otto) Wolff. He attended schools at Hidden Township School, Buchanan and Jamestown. He worked for various farmers in the Pettibone area where he met the love of his life, Alice. He and Alice A . Kahler were united in marriage on November 22, 1945 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown.

He was inducted into the US Army on February 20, 1946 at Ft. Snelling, MN. He trained at Fitzsimmons General Hospital, Denver, CO as a medical technician and then served at Ft. Dix, NJ and Ft. Jackson, SC. He received an honorable discharge on September 22, 1947 from Ft. Bragg, NC. He returned to North Dakota and farmed for a brief time in the Pettibone area. They then moved to Jamestown where he was employed at Rosene Plumbing & Heating, W.H. Noel Co., and Northern Improvement. He was one of the first employees of Wanzek Construction, West Fargo, ND, where he was General Superintendent from September 1971 until 1988 when he retired. He was in charge of many construction projects throughout the area which included building bridges, water treatment plants and sewer projects and fish trap on the McClusky canal.

After retirement Art and Alice spent many hours doing various projects, helping to restore and preserve St. John Cemetery near Heaton, ND, gardening, yardwork, mechanical projects, travel, hunting and fishing. He enjoyed spending time with family and playing cards and board games. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and AmVets.

Art is survived by his wife of nearly 67 years, Alice, Jamestown; three children, Gerry (Art) Perleberg, Jamestown, Kathy (Jerry) DeBolt, Edgeley, ND and Tim (Cindy) Wolff, Jamestown; seven grandchildren, Brent (Debra) Perleberg, Angela Stanek, Brian DeBolt, Brandon DeBolt, Darcie Nichelson, Fred (Liza) Wolff and Jenna Wolff; eleven great-grandchildren, Adam & Erika Stanek, Corey, April and Justin Pollack, Amber and Madison DeBolt, Logan and Gracie Nichelson, Brody and Henry Wolff; one sister, Shirley (Harold) Sahr, Jamestown; two sisters-in-law, Ilene Wolff, Jud, ND and Lorraine J. Wolff, Superior, WI and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Gottlieb, Albert, Robert and Roy and one sister, Frieda Morris.

He will be dearly missed by his family.
