Audrey Wegenast

Audrey Wegenast, 85, of Edgeley, ND, died Monday, September 9, 2013 at Jamestown Regional Medical Center.

Audrey was born on September 10, 1927 on the family farm northeast of Nortonville, ND, the daughter of LaRell and Merle (Sheets) Smith. She attended country school and graduated from Nortonville High School. Audrey earned her teaching certificate from Valley City State University and taught at country schools in the Jud, ND area. Audrey and Ervin Wegenast were married on June 1, 1947 in a country church south of Jud. They made their home on a farm six miles south of Jud where she milked cows and helped with farm work, while continuing to teach school. They moved to Edgeley in 1979 and Ervin died in 1990.

Audrey is survived by her daughters, Cheryle (Calvin) Schlenker and Christine (Bob) Jones; 9 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Marie) Smith and Lloyd (Cheryl) Smith; one sister, Loretta Solinger; and two sisters-in-law, Mavis Smith and June Batsch.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Clayton; brothers, Leighton and Donald; sister, Lois; and a brother-in-law, Raymond Batsch.

Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Edgeley, ND.

Family will receive guests: 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, and one hour before the service at the church.

Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.
