Bea J. Stocking, 99, Jamestown, ND died Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Eventide Jamestown.
Beatryce J. “Bea” Williams was born August 18, 1919 at Cathay, ND, the daughter of James Irwin and Marie (Brodell) Williams. She grew up and attended school and graduated from high school in Cathay.
She married Orville J. Stocking on June 5, 1946 at Cathay. Bea gave O.J. the nickname “Socks” because she said “He wasn’t an Orville kind of guy.” They lived and worked in Fargo and Valley City before moving to Jasper, MN, where their son, Jay I, was born in 1957. Bea always said the years they lived in Jasper were the happiest years of her married life. They moved back to North Dakota, eventually making their home in Jamestown. O.J. died July 30, 1996.
Bea was active at the 1st United Methodist Church where her love for little children led her to give the children’s story time at many Sunday services. She loved to cook and bake and entertain. Family, friends and neighbors were always welcome. For many years she liked to watch sports on TV, especially the NBA, pro golf, and pro tennis. She was a big fan of the Williams sisters, naturally. Bea was a loving, generous, good humored, gracious person. She was the primary caregiver for her sister Irene for many years.
She is survived by her son, Jay I and many nieces and nephews. Bea was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, twin brothers Irwyn and Selwyn, sisters Viola “Ole” Miller, Irene Litton, and her twin sister Bernice “Bee” Laudon.
The family would like to thank the staff at Eventide for their kindness and care during Bea’s time there. Also, a thank you to JRMC Home Health and Hospice for the help they gave while Bea was living at home. Thanks to the meals on wheels service for easing Bea’s kitchen duties in her later years.
A celebration of life service for Bea will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 17, 2019 at First United Methodist Church, Jamestown, ND.
