Beatrice June Bader, 74, Jamestown, North Dakota went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 28, 2003.
Beatrice June Schelske was born on June 5, 1928 to Ted and Jennie (Eissinger) Schelske. She attended the Medina School through the 6th grade when her parents moved to a farm 12 miles northeast of Medina. There she attended a local farm school for the 7th and 8th grades. She graduated second in her class from Medina High School in 1946. In 1946-47 she took some business courses at Jamestown College and also went to summer school at Valley City Teachers College. June taught one year north of Medina, one year northeast of Jamestown and another year close to Eldridge. She married her classmate Vernon Bader in 1950. She then taught school at Crystal Springs with her husband as janitor during the winter months. The spring of 1951 they moved to her husband's old farm south of Medina, where they lived until she fell on December 20, 2000.
June was an excellent mother. She believed that someone should be home waiting for the children whenever they came home. Even when the children were in college, she seldom went to bed when they were expected to come home.
A thyroid problem caused her to have such cold hands, that when the children were small she not only washed them, but soaked them in hot water before picking them up. Her daughter, Deonne, once said there was nothing as comforting as the feel of her cold hands on her forehead when she was sick.
Although June did not feel that she wanted to be a farm wife, she truly enjoyed the quiet lifestyle that it provided. She loved the outdoors and even had her favorite chair outside where she would spend much of the summer reading (in her spare time). June did all the garden and lawn work and much of the milking during the summer months. In the winter June and her dog would walk many miles in deep snow. She always said she lost another true friend when her dog could no longer make the trips, but even more so when he passed away.
June's absolute faith in God and in her husband made this a family that served God at a local, state and national level. Whenever one mate teaches church school or any other committed function, the other needs to allow them space and even cover some of their tasks. Many times June accepted tasks that enabled her family to attend church related functions.
June's absolute trust in her husband gave him the freedom to serve God over a large area, sometimes being gone for weeks at a time. When this occurred one learns and sometimes changes much, but June would sit by quietly and wait to see who came home and never fail to relate to this different man once she knew who he now was.
She was truly loved by her family and her many true friends. She has been in the constant prayer life of a multitude of people and did realize one miraculous healing, but the fall in 2000 was for her the beginning of the end.
June fell on December 20, 2000 and in spite of many prayers and well wishes she had never fully recovered. She had been in a nursing home or hospital ever since.
She is survived by her husband, two children, Lance (Laurie) Bader of Cary, North Carolina and Deonne Varriano of Fargo, three grandchildren, Anthea Varriano, Nicole and Natalie Bader, two brothers, Leo Schelske, Fargo, Vernon Schelske, Medina and two sisters, Norma Schweitzer of Eugene, OR and Laura Eberhardt of Jamestown.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her oldest sister, Luella Thompson and her youngest brother, Dan Schelske.
