Ben Wittmer

Ben Wittmer, 84, Jamestown, ND, died at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Fargo on Friday, October 27, 2006.
Benjamin W. Wittmer was born on August 25, 1922 on the family farm south of Medina, ND the son of Jacob and Emelia (Reister) Wittmer. He attended the Peterson Township School and was raised and worked on the family farm. Ben enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1942 and served during World War II in the European Theatre receiving the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He returned to Medina after his discharge in November, 1945. He farmed for a short time after his return and then moved to Jamestown in 1947 where he married Harriet Lang. Ben worked for the North Dakota State Hospital, owned and operated the Carter Gas Station for a number of years, worked for Iverson Construction and later as a bartender in Jamestown for many years. Harriet died on April 1, 2004.
Survivors include his 6 children: Faye Randall, Santa Anna, CA; Maxine Simpson, Redmond, WA; Michael (special friend, Sue), Minneapolis, MN; Cindi (Jim) Ryan-Knebel, Katy, TX; Candy (Mark) Roones, Jamestown, ND; Todd (Lori), Minneapolis, MN; 8 grandchildren: Jason, Tiffiny, Christy, Trisha, Alicia, Mitch, DeAnna and Desaray; 7 great-grandchildren: Riley, Shelby, DeShaun, Maliki and infant triplets: Erica, Faith and Jeremy Ryan; 2 sisters: Martha Jenkin, Bismarck, ND, Emma Gent, Jamestown, ND; 1 nephew and 5 nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Emilia Wittmer; wife, Harriet Lang; 2 grandchildren: Nicole Ray Wittmer and Mark Joseph Ryan II; 3 brothers: Albert, Russell, Eddie; and 3 sisters: Tillie Russell, Rose Nieder, and Ella Hoffman.
Ben was a member of the Jamestown VFW.
Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND with Rev. Bryce Tahran officiating.
Visitation: 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 30, 2006 at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown and 1 hour prior to services on Tuesday.
Interment: 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
