Bernadeen M. Bye, 85, Jamestown, North Dakota died Friday, October 17, 2003 at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home, Jamestown. Bernadeen Porter was born September 12, 1918 the daughter of S. Glenn and Vera (Roland) Porter in Beaver Crossing, Nebraska. She received her education in the Beaver Schools, graduating with honors in 1935.
Bernadeen married Roy A. Bye on December 14, 1935 in Marysville, Kansas. They made their home in Beaver Crossing until they moved to Southern California in 1937. They later returned to Beaver Crossing where they owned and operated a Texaco Service Station. After selling the station they moved to Lincoln, NE where she was employed by a leading department store. After World War II ended, they returned to Beaver Crossing where they operated a book bindery. When the bindery was destroyed by a flash flood, they moved to Jamestown, ND where she continued to make her home. They managed an apartment complex in north Jamestown where she continued to work after the death of her husband in 1975. In 1981 she took a job as secretary for First United Methodist Church where she continued to work until she was injured in an auto accident in 1992.
She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, WSCS, and Wesley Circle. She served on various committees, taught Sunday School and played in an adult choir. She was a member of Lady Washington #1 OES where she held various offices and served as a Mother Advisor for International Order of Rainbow for Girls for a number of years. She served North Dakota Grand Chapter as Grand Martha, a Grand Representative to Texas, Alberta and Saskatchewan and on various committees. Bernadeen was a member of the ""Jaynotes"" Women's Chorus serving as President.
She enjoyed reading, sewing, embroidery, crossword puzzles, traveling and her grandchildren, family and friends.
Bernadeen is survived by her children; sons, Robert (Alecia) of Arapahoe, NE, Scott of North Hollywood, CA, daughters, Lynda (Dan) Parker of Sugarland, TX and Kimberly (Michael) Steffan of Ray, ND; daughters-in-law Roweena Berg of Jamestown and Gloria Bye of Arvada, CO; half sisters, Jean Kerr of Northridge, CA and Phyllis Stutzman of Beaver Crossing, NE; half brothers, Frank (Bonnie) Watts of Lincoln, NE and Glenn (Georgiana) Porter of Newport, OR; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy A. Bye, her parents, her grandparents, one son, Jac, a brother, Keith, one half sister, two step sisters and one step brother.
Memorial Service: 11:00 AM, Monday, October 27, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church with an Eastern Star Committal Service.
Inurnment: Beaver Crossing Cemetery, Beaver Crossing, NE.
