Bernard Merrill Hieb

March 12, 1926 — September 21, 2015

Bernard Merrill Hieb (Bernie) died September 21, 2015 on his farm near Cleveland, ND. He was born to Benjamin (BB) and Myrtle Hieb at their home farm near Woodworth, ND on March 12, 1926. He attended country school through eighth grade and worked on the family farm until drafted into the US Army in 1945, receiving an honorary discharge at the end of WWII. Bernard married Olga Liebelt on September 28, 1947 and grew his own family and farm near Cleveland for 66 years until their move to Jamestown in 2012. In addition to farming, Bernie raised cattle and drove Cleveland/Medina public school bus for 37 years. He is survived by wife Olga; sons Davis (Patty) of Valley View, TX and Keith (Patrice) of Cleveland, ND; daughter Joline (Greg) Kolsky of Grand Junction, CO; six grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters Peggy Ernst of Camden, AR and Lucinda (Wayne) Blaisdell of Eliot, ME. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marge Nelson, brothers Delton and Clayton Hieb, and daughter Bernadine Borisow. In 1990 he began spending winters in Arizona, and was a life-long member of the Seventh-day Adventist Churches in Medina Country/Cleveland, ND and Mesa, AZ. He modeled the virtues of good neighbor, friend, father and successful farmer. He started farming with an International H and passed away peacefully helping with harvest on his 9630 John Deere. His life and passion were his family, friends, and farming. Eddy Funeral Home of Jamestown will arrange services, with internment at Old Medina Country SDA Church Cemetery. Gifts in lieu of flowers may be sent to Cleveland SDA Church or 3ABN Broadcasting.

Funeral service: 3:00 PM, Sunday, September 27 at Seventh Day Adventist Church, Jamestown, ND.
Family receiving friends: 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Saturday, September 26 at Eddy Funeral Chapel.
Burial: 10:30 AM, Sunday, September 27 at Medina Country Cemetery.
