Bernard \""Bud\"" H. Tarno, 84, Jamestown, North Dakota died Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown.
Bud was born June 2, 1926 in Jamestown, the son of Ernest and Lula (Bruce) Tarno. He grew up and attended school in Jamestown. On August 16, 1944 he enlisted in the US Army and served in the European Theater during WWII. He was discharged July 7, 1946 and went to Seattle, Washington for a few years and worked in the the shipyards. On October 22, 1948 Bud married Delora \""Del\"" Oster in Moorhead, Minnesota. He then worked for Bridgeman-Russell Creamery for a short time and for Lowell Beverage Company in Jamestown/Valley City, ND. In 1962, Bud formed Tarno Distributing Company and became the owner/operator until his retirement. Bud and Del wintered in Arizona for a number of years in their retirement.
Bud was Past President of the ND Beer Wholesalers, Past Commander of the VFW, former officer of the Jamestown Softball Fastpitch Association, member of the Elks, Eagles, American Legion, Cooties, VFW and Concordia Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, an occasional beverage with family and friends and just being around people.
Bud is survived by four sons, Bill Dean (Kathy) Tarno, Bruce Douglas (Rhonda) Tarno and Gregory Neal (Libby) Tarno, all of Jamestown and Scott Lee (Katrina) Tarno, Bismarck, ND; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four sisters-in-law, Virginia Tarno, Columbus, GA, Gladys Schulz, Jamestown, Betty Nolthing, Eau Claire, WI and Erna Smith, Zeeland, MI.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; son, Kevin, in infancy; and one brother, Warren.
