Bernice Baker

April 9, 1934 — September 7, 2016

Bernice Baker, 82, Jamestown, ND, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 7, 2016.
Bernice Eileen Messer was born in Walum, ND on April 9, 1934 to Monroe & Evelyn (Anderson) Messer. She was the third oldest of ten children. She attended school at the Barklay Country School.
On July 17, 1959 Bernice was united in marriage to Boyd Benton Baker in Daisy, ND. They lived for several years in Valley City and then moved to Jamestown in 1967. Since Boyd worked road construction, the family traveled to small towns in ND and MT where his projects took him.
After Boyd's death in 1977, Bernice worked several jobs before retiring. Bernice did not drive and was an avid walker. She was a wonderful, giving person and loved working on crafts for her family and friends that she would give away every Christmas.
Bernice's greatest joy in life was her children and grandchildren and her biggest smiles were saved for them. She loved the Lord with all her heart and was a faithful member of First Assembly of God in Jamestown for many years.
Her life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children; Bonnie (Louis) DeLair of Jamestown; Bernita (Steve) Taft of Lolo, MT; Barb (Robin) Larson, Cleveland, ND; Becky (Rich) Rowell of Williston, ND; Grandkids: MaKayla and Dylan DeLair; Tyler, Shelby and Tanner Larson; and her brothers: Maynard Messer of rural Hannaford; Romaine Messer of Mt. Pleasant, IA; Rallon (Carol) Messer of Mt. Pleasant, IA; Rodney Messer of Jamestown; Sisters: Joyce McCarthy of Fargo; Carolyn (Phil) Grage of Gardner, ND; Nita (Arden) Saxberg of rural Cooperstown and many nieces and nephews.
Bernice was preceded in death by her Husband Boyd; Parents: Monroe and Evelyn Messer; Brothers: Lyle Messer and Marvin Messer; Sister: Connie Messer.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 11, at Eddy Funeral Chapel in Jamestown. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at First Assembly of God Church in Jamestown. Pastor Jeff Wiedenmeyer will officiate. Burial will be in Ypsilanti Cemetery.
