Bert J. Dunn, 94, Jamestown, ND died Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Eventide at Hi-Acres in Jamestown.
Bert was born July 20, 1918 in Jamestown, the son of William B. and Emma (Wiese) Dunn. He grew up and attended school in Jamestown, graduating from Jamestown High School in 1937. Bert worked for several creameries in Bismarck, Minot, Devils Lake and Rolla. On June 10, 1941 Bert married Dorothy Berg in Jamestown. He began working for the Northern Pacific Railroad in 1941. On September 28, 1942 Bert enlisted in the US Army Air Force and served during World War II. On February 12, 1946 he was honorably discharged and returned to North Dakota. He went back to work as a brakeman for the railroad and later as a conductor for 39 years, retiring in 1979. Bert was a lifelong resident of Jamestown and even built the house he lived in for over 60 years.
He was a member of United Presbyterian Church and the NRA. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing and gardening. He loved to share his garden harvest with any and everyone who wanted or needed vegetables.
Bert is survived by one son, David (Mary) Dunn, Minnetonka, MN; two daughters, Judi (Neil) Baker, Jamestown and Cheryl (Jim) Gordon, Fairfax, VA; eight grandchildren, Kiara Dunn (David) Powell, Betsy Dunn, Ryan Tompkins, Aaron Baker, Brandon Baker, Christopher (Amanda) Gordon, Benjamin Gordon and Amelia Gordon; two great-grandchildren, Freya and Delilah Powell; and one sister, Betty (George) Nordling, Reno, NV.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; two sons, one in infancy and James; three sisters, Lucille, Verna and Irene; and two brothers, Jerry and Fred.
