Bertel Edward Kracht

Bertel Edward Kracht, 94, Kensal, North Dakota passed away Friday, October 2, 2015 with his daughter Karen by his side in Mesa, Arizona.
Bert was born July 31, 1921, on the family farm in Ashland Township, Courtney, North Dakota, the first child born to Otto August and Mae Sara (VanWinkle) Kracht. He attended a country school in Ashland Township one half mile from his home. At the age of 18, he worked at the Civilian Conservation Corps in Miles City, Montana spending most of his time building fences.
Bert met Marie Belle Wulff when they both worked on the John Lonski farm. They married July 10, 1942, in Jamestown, North Dakota. Bert and Marie had two children, Darold Edward and Karen Marie.
Bert farmed with his son Darold for John Hoekle, living on the farmstead for many years. He served on the Lyon Township Board and was the rural fire chief for a few years.
Bert and Marie moved to Kensal in 1995. They spent numerous winters in Mesa, Arizona, most of them at Venture Out where he was known as Aztec Bert due to his daily walks around the park. Those who loved him are better people because of how he lived his life. Bert was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He was a devoted family member who spent his later years caring for his son, Darold and wife, Marie.
Bert is survived by his daughter, Karen and Bernard Hoggarth and daughter-in-law, Theresa Kracht; siblings, Otto Kracht, Kenneth (Dorothy) Kracht, Edith Zerface and Grace (Larry) Diede; sister-in-law, Mavis Kracht; brother-in-law, Jack Ruether; seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marie, his son Darold, siblings Bertha (Paul) Gunderson, Bernard Kracht, Merle Kracht, Robert Kracht and Peggy Ruether and parents.

Funeral service: 1:00 PM, Wednesday, October 7 at Eddy Funeral Chapel with Pastor Bryce Tahran, officiating.
Visitation: 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Wednesday, October 7 at Eddy Funeral Chapel.
Burial: Kensal Cemetery, Kensal, North Dakota.
