Bertha Bardell

Bertha Bardell, 93, Bismarck, North Dakota, formerly of Jamestown, North Dakota, died Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck.

Bertha Dockter was born June 18, 1916 to Gottlieb and Magdalena (Frigen) Dockter. Bertha was baptized and confirmed in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monango. She attended school in Monango and one year at the Ellendale Normal Industrial School. She taught for one year in a rural school. On December 19, 1941 Bertha married Merton Bardell in Monango. They lived in Monango until 1950, then moved to Galchutt, ND where they resided until moving to Kindred, ND in 1963. They lived in Kindred for four years before moving to Jamestown. Bertha moved to Bismarck in 2007 and became a resident of Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in 2008.

Bertha enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, fishing and dancing. She belonged to Ladies Aid and was a Den Mother. Bertha was a nuturuing and loving mother and grandmother. Her whole life revolved around taking care of her family and being there for them. She was known for her German cooking, especially kuchen.

Bertha is survived by three sons, Lester Bardell, Moorhead, MN, Gene (Cheryl) Bardell, Jamestown and Steven (Abby) Bardell, Mandan, ND; two daughters, Bonna (James) Rasset, Ortonville, MN and Faye (Larry) Bough, Baxter Springs, KS; daughter-in-law, Lucy Bardell, Jamestown; six grandchildren, Greg Rasset, Julie Danielson, Casey Bough, Brett Bough, Van Bardell and Kayli Bardell; eight great-grandchildren, Brenna, Drew, Bethany, Mikayla, Sienna, Connor, Colton and Chase; two sisters, Olga Henry, Mesa, AZ and Leona Rempfer, Hot Springs, SD; and two brothers, Ervin Dockter, Devils Lake, ND and Melvin (Elsie) Dockter, Orangevale, California.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Merton; son, Ray; granddaughter, Suzanne; four brothers; and one sister.
