Bertha Schmidt, 91, Jamestown, North Dakota died Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home in Jamestown.
Bertha Unruh was born March 18, 1915, on a farm south of Beulah, ND, the daughter of John and Katherine (Voegele) Unruh. She received her education in a rural school near Beulah in Mercer County, ND. Bertha worked on her grandparents' farm and for others as a farm laborer, herding cows and doing various jobs.
On September 27, 1936, Bertha married Sam Schmidt at the United Methodist Church in Beulah. They resided in Beulah where he was employed by Northern Pacific Railroad. They moved to Tuttle, ND in 1939 and later to Medina, ND in 1942. Sam died on July 12, 1979.
She did housecleaning, including the Medina Clinic and Medina Drug store. She moved to Jamestown in 1988.
Bertha was a member of the Medina United Methodist Church. She was very active in the church and also sang in the church choir. She became a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church after moving to Jamestown. Bertha enjoyed quilting, fancy work, cooking, gardening and fishing.
Bertha is survived by one brother, Dale (Mylo) Unruh, Thornton, CO; one sister, Martha Mason, Minot, ND; one sister-in-law, Shirley Unruh, Jamestown; one brother-in-law, Dave Hausauer, Beulah, ND and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, William, Paul & John, Jr.; and four sisters, Annie, Alvina, Hilda & Helen.
Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Monday, June 26, 2006 at the United Methodist Church in Medina, North Dakota with Pastor Darwin Kopfmann.
Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 PM, Sunday, June 25, 2006 at the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown.
Burial: Medina Cemetery, Medina, North Dakota.
