Betty Lorraine (Kipp) Cumber, 83, formerly of Montpelier, ND, passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at the Pioneer Cottages, Fergus Falls, MN.
Betty was born on July 31, 1929 in Jamestown, ND. She was the oldest of three children born to Florence (Gibson) and Harvey Kipp.
Betty grew up in Ypsilanti, ND. During World War II, while Harvey served in the Army-Air Force, the family lived with Betty?s maternal grandfather, Clinton Gibson, at Urbana, ND.
Betty attended Ypsilanti Public School and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1947. While a student, she started working at James River National Bank. She was hired full-time after graduation and worked there into the early 1950?s. In 1970, Betty started working at the Farmer?s State Bank in Ypsilanti, retiring in 1991.
On October 23, 1949, Betty L. Kipp married Harold M. Cumber, son of Herbert and Martha (Janz) Cumber. The couple made their home on a farm located at the north side of Montpelier. Betty moved to Fergus Falls, MN in 2008.
Betty was active in PTA, Cub Scouts, Band Boosters, Circle, worked the 1970 US Census, and served on the local voting board.
Betty and Harold traveled throughout the United States, visiting all the states except Alaska. They made several trips to California to see her brothers.
Betty Lorraine Cumber is survived by three daughters: Catherine C. Martin (Terry Peterson) of Prescott, WI; Lynnette L. (Jeff) Gearman of Alexandria, MN; Gwenda G. (Mike) Buttke of Fergus Falls, MN; six grandchildren: Lucas Martin, Isaac (Leah) Martin, Jessica (Matthew) Kleine, Jacob Fenno, Lindsey Buttke, and Chad Buttke; two great-granddaughters: Abigail Kleine and Vera Martin; six step-grandchildren: Christopher and Darci Buttke, Kyle (Laura), Matthew, Melissa and Kate Gearman; three step-great grandchildren: Matthew Herrick, Taylor Knollenberg, Olivia Buttke; two brothers: Boyden (Carolyn) Kipp and Dallas (Shirley) Kipp; three sisters-in-law: Josie (Cumber) Gregoryk, Alice (Lehr) Cumber and Norine (Cumber) Naze and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold (2006), daughter Laurel (1953), son Daniel (1961), and son Steven (2006).
