Betty June Heyer, 87, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, formerly of Jamestown, North Dakota, died Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes.
Betty Green was born October 2, 1922 in Shidler, Oklahoma, the daughter of Charles Everet and Nellie Irene (Grounds) Green. She attended school in various areas of Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas. On February 14, 1946 Betty married Franklin O. Heyer in Lane, South Dakota. They made their home in Huron, SD, later moving to Wahpeton, ND and to Jamestown in 1957. She worked parttime at Baker Boy Bake Shop, Dee Jays clothing store and later at Feinsteins clothing, all in Jamestown. After she retired, Betty and Frank were \""snowbirds\"" and traveled all over the south every winter with their camper. Frank died in 1994. In 2003 Betty moved to Detroit Lakes, MN and resided at the Lincoln Park Senior and Assisted Living Center until October 2009, when she into the Oak Crossing Nursing Home.
Betty was very family oriented and involved with her children and their activities. She volunteered as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, PTA, church, Sunday School and Bible School teacher, LWML and circle. She was involved in the Jamestown Hospital Auxiliary, working in their gift shop, sat at the Mammogram desk, and rocked many sick babies in Pediatrics. Betty enjoyed her Whist Club of which she belonged for over 40 years. She loved kids and her greatest joys were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and her granddogs.
Betty is survived by her four children: Patricia (Robert) Cadreau, Park Rapids, MN, David (Barbara) Heyer, Detroit Lakes, MN, Diana (Dick) Siek, Frazee, MN, and James (Sherry) Heyer, Fargo, ND; eleven grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one grandson, Kelly James Heyer; and three sisters, Doris, Bonnie, and Mary Ann.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
