Beulah (Chisman) Glaeseman, 89, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Monday, February 19, 2007 at Central Dakota Village in Jamestown, ND.
Beulah was born in Lisbon, North Dakota on August 1, 1917, the daughter of Beulah (Armacost) and William E. Chisman. She grew up and attended school in Lisbon, graduating high school in 1935. Her career goal was to attend nursing school but family finances did not permit it. In 1938, she married Harry W. Glaeseman of Enderlin, ND in LaMoure, ND where they opened Home Bakery in partnership with George and Ruth Cox. Their son, Ron, was born there in 1941. They sold the bakery and moved to Bottineau, ND. In 1942, they moved to Pleasant Grove, UT where Harry worked in construction on the US Steel plant. They moved back to North Dakota in 1943 where they lived in Enderlin and in Moorhead, MN. In 1946, they moved to Fargo, ND where Harry began work at the Armour & Co. packing plant in West Fargo. They were members of the American Lutheran Church where she taught both Sunday and Bible school. She was a member and officer in the Ladies Aid.
Armour closed the plant in 1959 and they both moved to Dickinson, ND where he managed Queen City meat packing plant for two years. In 1962, they moved to Jamestown where Harry took a job as salesman with Heller Co. They were members of St. John's Lutheran Church where she held several offices in the Ladies Aid and Women of the Church. She was a member of AAL Branch 4652.
Harry retired in 1977 and they started a home business called B&E Casing which supplied sausage casings to small meat processors throughout the Midwest. He died in September 2001.
Beulah enjoyed bowling and was inducted into the Jamestown Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1991 for serving as treasurer for over 20 years. She also enjoyed sewing, gardening and growing flowers and vegetables.
Although Beulah was but a simple housewife, she did her best to take care of a husband and raise a son; a task which is never simple. She endured life with little complaint, having had a number of medical procedures which were never mentioned to family or friends. Her personality was characterized by determination coupled with feistiness and tempered with good humor. No one ever saw her raise her voice or utter an unkind word. Her small place in the universe will not be easily filled and those who knew her will miss her dearly.
Beulah is survived by her son, Ron R. Glaeseman, San Pedro, CA; her brother, William Chisman, Jr, Columbus, IN and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a sister, Uarda; a brother, Lyman and a brother in infancy.
