Blaine Horsager

Blaine Horsager, 87, of Edgeley, ND, died Thursday, June 9, 2011 at his home in Edgeley.

Blaine Horsager was born March 14, 1924, on the family farm in Willowbank Township, near Berlin, ND, the son of John and Mary (Fitzgerald) Horsager. He grew up on the family farm, attended rural schools and graduated from Berlin High School in 1941. In 1942, he went to Tacoma, WA to work in the ship yards, then enlisted in the US Navy in March of 1943. Blaine was an aviation mechanic during WWII and was discharged in April of 1946. He returned to Berlin and worked in a blacksmith shop with his brother, Miles, for a short time. Blaine was the bulk dealer for Standard Oil Co. in Berlin, and later Edgeley. He married Audrey Ellingson on February 14, 1948 in Berlin, ND. Blaine also moved houses from 1946 and continued until 1972. After he retired from Standard Oil, Blaine then owned and operated Carquest in Edgeley. He later worked for local farmers, and drove school bus and ambulance.

Blaine was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Edgeley where he served on the board. He was also a member of the Ellendale AF & AM Masons, Edgeley Lions, American Legion, and served as clerk for the Berlin School board.

Blaine is survived by his wife, Audrey, Edgeley; son, Denis (Angie), Valley City, ND; daughter, Beverly Petska, Camp Verde, AZ; son Gary (Sandi), Edgeley, ND; son Kevin (Sharon), Reiles Acres, ND; daughter, Karen Savageau, Tempe, AZ; 26 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Dewald, Moorhead, MN and Harriet Whalen, Dickinson, ND; and two brothers, Harley (Diane), Lake Ville, MN and Bryan, Hope, ID.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Adele Horsager; son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Norrine Horsager; son-in-law, Rusty Savageau; brother, Miles Fitzgerald; and two sisters, Hazel Drenth and Joanne Horsager.

Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m, Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at Wesley United Methodist Church Edgeley, ND, with Rev. Ken Ballard officiating.

Visitation: 4:00pm-7:00pm, Monday, June 13, 2011 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Edgeley.

Prayer Service: 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 13, 2011 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Edgeley.

Burial: Berlin Cemetery, Berlin, ND.
