Blanche Burdell Little

Blanche Little, 96, Jamestown, ND, formerly of Jud, ND, died Sunday, July 5, 2009 at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown, ND.

Blanche Burdell Brooks was born December 25, 1912 on the family farm in Mikkelson Township, LaMoure County, ND, the daughter of Henry Fred and Myrtle Belle (France) Brooks. She spent her early years on the family farm and began elementary school in Gackle, ND while staying with her grandparents. She attended grades 3 through 8 at the Mikkelson Township School. She attended Napoleon High School for 1 year, Nortonville High School for 2 years and finished high school in Ellendale, ND. She then attended Ellendale Normal and Industrial School for 2 years and a summer session at Moorhead Teachers' College. Blanche taught for 6 years in one room country schools in the area and then taught 5 years in the Napoleon School. On July 19, 1945, she married Elliot Thomas Little in Moorhead, MN and they settled on the Little Family Farm in Jud, ND. Blanche continued her teaching career in Nortonville, ND, where she taught for 32 years. Elliot died in 1996 and Blanche continued to live on the farm until 2000, when she moved to Jamestown, ND. She entered Hi-Acres Manor in August of 2008.

Blanche was a member of Nortonville United Methodist Church, the Nortonville United Methodist Women, the Nortonville Homemakers Club, the Jud Senior Citizens and North Dakota Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include a brother, Rodney Brooks, Minneapolis, MN, nieces and nephews and friend, Shirley Lindgren, Nortonville, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and a brother, Ashley "Bud" Brooks.

Memorial Service - 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2009 at Nortonville United Methodist Church, Nortonville, ND.

Interment - Mount Hope Cemetery, Edgeley, ND
