C. Duane Kiefel, age 71 of Jamestown, ND died on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo. Duane was born on October 14, 1934, son of Casper and Alma (Wentzel) Kiefel of Devils Lake, ND.
In 1953, Duane married Luann Johnson and worked as a telegrapher for the Great Northern Railway in McVille, ND. The family moved to Jamestown in 1961 when Duane joined the Aid Association for Lutherans as a District Representative. He became a General Agent in 1965. Among his many career achievements, Duane was named AAL's Man of the Year and was very active in the Life Underwriters Association.
As a long time member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Duane served the Lord and his congregation in many ways including a term with the International Lutheran Layman's League as the Regional Governor, media division.
Duane was active as a Board member for Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch for over 30 years which included a seven year term as the Association's Chairman of the Board. Duane was currently serving on the DBGR Foundation Board of Directors and was appointed to the position of Honorary Chairman of the Ranch's Capital Campaign Fund Drive.
Duane had a passion for cooking, hunting, ice fishing, and spending time with his family.
Duane was deeply loved and will be missed by his wife, Luann; his children, Randall (Brenda) Kiefel of Grand Forks, Lori (Richard) Lipetzky of Jamestown, Nanci (David) Fennern of Bismarck, and Mark Kiefel of Bismarck; his grandchildren, Callie Day (David) Schimmelpfennig, Christopher Kiefel, Lyndi, Parker and Carsen Lipetzky, Jessica (Eric) Howe, Jonathan Fennern, and Brock and Bryce Kiefel; his brothers and sisters, Rolland (Sherry) Kiefel, Mervin (Marrilou) Kiefel, Joan (Dan) Sweeney, Palmer (Elaine) Kiefel, Darlene (William) Rosenthal and Rodney (Mary) Kiefel.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Saturday, January 21, 2006 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND with Pastor Tom Eckstein.
Visitation: 1:00 to 9:00 PM, Friday, January 20, 2006 at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, ND and one hour before service at the church.
Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Friday, January 20, 2006 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel.
Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, North Dakota.
