Calvin "Kelly" Spravzoff

Calvin Spravzoff, 78, Jamestown, ND, died Monday, August 10, 2009 at Innovis Hospital, Fargo, ND after a courageous 4 year battle with cancer.

Calvin Curtis "Kelly" Spravzoff was born April 9, 1931 in Fargo, ND, the son of Steve and Marion (Dulski) Spravzoff. In 1936, he moved with his family to a farm in Woodworth, ND, and attended school in Carrington, ND. In 1946, he moved to Jamestown, ND where he lived until entering the United States Air Force in February of 1948 and served in Iceland and Alaska. He was discharged in 1952 and in June of 1954, married Evangeline Kliengartner. From February of 1952 to February of 1956, he worked in construction and was a member of the Jamestown Police Force. He reenlisted in the Air Force, retiring in 1972 with a rank of Master Sergeant. He returned to Jamestown where he owned and operated Kelly's Bar and the Tomahawk Bar until 1976 when he returned to construction work and also worked as a bartender. In June of 1978, he began working for the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. He later worked as a mail carrier in Jamestown, Williston, ND and Lakota, ND. In June of 1985, he married Jo-Ann Brignall in LaMoure, ND. He retired from postal service in April of 2003.

Kelly enjoyed working in the garden. He liked to cook and prime rib was his specialty. He also liked going to the casinos and drinking beer.

Survivors include his wife, Jo-Ann, Jamestown, ND; 2 daughters: Susan Gertz, Aurora, CO; Sheree (Gerald) Frost, Aurora, CO; a son, Scott (Monica) Spravzoff, Milwaukee, OR; 2 step-daughters: Kristi (James) Balster, Jamestown, ND; Becky Devlin, Grand Forks, ND; a brother, Raymond (Lillian) Spravzoff, Pick City, ND; 2 nephews: Steve (Ann) Spravzoff, Flagstaff, AZ; Mark (Lisa) Spravzoff, Watford City, ND; 13 grandchildren: Staci Nitschke, Amy Larson, Corey Ganser, Camien Gertz, Amanda Spravzoff, Nathan Spravzoff, Joel Spravzoff, Riley Spravzoff, Macy Spravzoff, Melodi Frost, Samantha Frost, Megan Frost and 9 great-grandchildren: Logan Nitscke, Lawson Nitschke, Nickolas Larson, Alex Larson, Aiden Gertz, Alex Gertz, Tyler Ganser, Amanda Ganser and Elizabeth Gertz.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial Service - 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 14, 2009 at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND

Interment - 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 14, 2009 at the North Dakota Veterans' Cemetery, Mandan, ND
