Carl I. Johnson, 72, Jamestown, ND, died Friday, January 22, 2010 at Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis, MN.
Carl Ivan Johnson was born July 20, 1937, in Fargo, ND, the son of Reuben and Adeline (Johnson) Dockter. He attended Franklin Elementary, Jamestown, and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1955. Carl worked for the Jamestown Sun as a carrier in 1949. He served in the North Dakota National Guard, then the US Navy aboard the battleship New Jersey, until being discharged in 1957. Carl attended IBM Business College, Jamestown, in 1962 and Jamestown College in 1985. He also worked at Jamestown College as Chief of Security in 1998.
Carl was a volunteer musician at Ave Marie Village and St. James Basilica and an officer in the Knight of Columbus, Jamestown.
He enjoyed classical music, classic movies, cars, and his cat, Miss Kitty.
Carl is survived by his mother, Adeline Dockter, Jamestown; brother, Richard (Darlene) Dockter, Jamestown; niece, Robin Kole, Apple Valley, MN; nephew, Michael Vick, Lincoln, ND; two aunts, Vi Hobert and Isabelle Christenson, both of Jamestown; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his step-father, Reuben Dockter; sister, Ida Louise Dockter; maternal grandparents, Ida and Alvin Johnson; niece, Polly Pozega; uncle and aunt, Roy and Ethel Johnson.
Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 29, 2010, at Hi-Acres Manor Chapel, Jamestown.
Visitation - none scheduled
Interment - Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, in the spring.
Memorials - In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the James River Humane Society, Jamestown.
