Carol Olson

Carol Olson, 79, Jamestown, North Dakota died Monday, July 28, 2008 at Ave Marie Village in Jamestown.

Carol Svegaarden was born on October 25, 1928, the daughter of Ludvig and Christine (Rygg) Svegaarden, in Clifford, ND. She was baptized on November 18, 1928 at Norman Lutheran Church, Clifford, and confirmed on June 13, 1943 at Mayville Lutheran Church, Mayville, ND. After graduating from Mayville High School in 1946, she attended Dakota Business College in Fargo, ND, where she met Norman L. Olson. They were united in marriage on June 14, 1947, at Olivet Lutheran Church in Fargo and lived in Fargo, Moorhead, MN, Mandan, ND, and Jamestown, ND. She worked as a church secretary at First Lutheran Church in Mandan, and then at the United Presbyterian Church, Jamestown, until her retirement in 1984.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Hope Circle and a Stephen Minister. She was instrumental in establishing a Widow' Support Group in Jamestown after the loss of her husband in 1991.

She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, shopping with her daughters and granddaughters, Saturday morning breakfasts out with her family, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her sense of humor and her caring and compassionate nature will be deeply missed by those whose lives she touched.

Carol is survived by her five daughters and sons-in-law, Sonja & Richard Johnston, Wheaton, IL, Renae & Richard Southwick, Fergus Falls, MN, Marcia & James Gums, Jamestown, Terri Lynn & Paul Weigel, Mandan, ND and Penny & Michael Landscoot, Jamestown; one son and daughter-in-law, Timothy & Bernie Olson, Edmund, OK; thirteen grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Grandchildren include Dan Johnston, Wheaton, IL, Andrea (Christopher) Gleeson, Champaign, IL, David Olson, Duncan, OK, Christy (Les) Grino, Del City, OK, Alison (Jeff) Wolf, Oklahoma City, OK, Jeremy (Destiny) Southwick, Fergus Falls, Shanna (Keith) Geigle, West Fargo, ND, Nadine (Jason) Miller, Shakopee, MN, Matthew Gums, Maple Grove, MN, Adam (Tracie) Weigel, Punta Gorda, FL, Ashley (Cecil Roth III) Weigel, Mandan, Candace Landscoot, St. Paul, MN and Amber (Tim) Hartmann, Jamestown. Great-grandchildren are Lexie and Ronan Grino, Cecil Maxwell Roth, IV, Lucas Geigle and Alexander Southwick.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Friday, August 1, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with Pastor Rich Fitzer officiating.

Visitation: 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, July 31, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown, ND.

Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Thursday, July 31, 2008 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel.

Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, North Dakota
