Carolyn Cofell Bettencourt

Carolyn Cofell was born Feb. 5, 1931 to Byrl and Evelyn (Conitz) Cofell in Edgeley, North Dakota.

She attended school in Edgeley and graduated from Edgeley High School in 1948.

Carolyn went to college in Minneapolis, Minnesota and worked as a secretary in Fargo, North Dakota.

In 1955 Carolyn moved to San Francisco, California and began her career with GMAC, she was with them for 30 years until she retired.

She later met and married Antonio de Sousa Bettencourt, Vice Consul of Portugal.

Carolyn and Tony moved to Sunnyvale, California in the early 80’s and still have their home there.

Carolyn enjoyed traveling overseas, sewing, and crafts. She especially loved coming back to Edgeley for the summer and attending class reunions and hosting for her class. Carolyn loved the alumni association in Edgeley.

Carolyn and Tony enjoyed spending time with their family and close friends in California and North Dakota.

Carolyn passed away after a brief battle with cancer on July 10, 2018 at the El Camino Hospital, Mountain View, California.

She was 87 years old.

Carolyn was very loved and will be missed by those who knew her.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, Byrl and Evelyn Cofell, brother Douglas B. Cofell, nephew Donald Cofell and great nephew, Taylor Cofell.

She is survived by her husband, Antonio Bettencourt, Sunnyvale, California; sister-in-law, Myrna Cofell, Edgeley, North Dakota; nephews, Daniel (Deb) Cofell, West Lebanon, New Hampshire, Douglas Cofell, Wahpeton, North Dakota. David Cofell, Edgeley, North Dakota; nieces, Wanyce Cofell, Gwinner, North Dakota and Lori Hoots, Mandan, North Dakota, Teresa Bettencourt Rodrigues, Lisbon Portugal, Charles Bettencourt, Ronald Bettencourt, and Ann Bettencourt, all on the east coast; as well as many great, and great- great nieces and nephews and many friends she made over her lifetime.

Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 16, 2018 at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, with Pastor Elmo Herman officiating.

Visitation : One hour before the service at the funeral home.

Burial: Mt. Hope Cemetery, Edgeley, ND.
