Cecil M. Speidel

Cecil M. Speidel (Place), 94, of Edgeley passed away October 18th at St. Rose Care Center, LaMoure, where she has resided for the last 6 years.
Cecil was born October 11th, 1924 in Glenmore township to Merval and Janice Place. She graduated from Nortonville High School and went on to earn her two year teaching certificate from Valley City State University. Cecil was married to Christian Speidel on August 27th, 1950 in Monango, ND. To this union, five children were born. Cecil and Christian spent every possible moment they could together and loved each other with a passion.
Cecil enjoyed gardening with a devotion for flowers, which was her inspiration to earn her master gardener and master preserver certificates. She also enjoyed crocheting, baking, watching sports, decorating for each holiday, and spending time with family and friends. Cecil was active in church activities and was a member of LWML. She enjoyed going to Red Willow for retreats.
Cecil is survived by her children, Kathleen (Kent) Brackel, Susan (Doug) Nilsen, Kristy (Keith) Heidinger, Curtis (Debbie) Speidel and Craig (Donna) Speidel; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many other loving relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Merval and Janice; husband of 59 years, Christian; and 2 grandchildren, Keith and Grant.
Cecil’s family would like to give special thanks to St. Rose Care Center and Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 21st, from 5-7pm with a prayer service beginning at 7pm, at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel in Edgeley. Funeral services will be held 10am on Monday, October 22nd, at Zion Lutheran Church in Edgeley. Interment will be at the Nortonville cemetery following the service.
