Cecile E Morud

March 30, 1927 — May 25, 2022

Cecile Morud, 95, passed away in her sleep early on May 25, 2022 at SMP Health-Ave Maria.  While healthy in many ways, she suffered her last years with Alzheimer’s.

Cecile was born on March 30, 1927, on the family farm, the daughter of Emily and Victor Nelson.  Cecile was the youngest of six children.  She was confirmed July 17, 1927, at Lunde Lutheran Church in Wolford, North Dakota.  After graduating from Cando High School, Cecile attended and graduated from New York Hairdressing Academy in Fargo, North Dakota graduating April 28, 1947.  It was in Fargo that she met the love of her life, Leslie Morud.  They were married July 10, 1947, in Cando, North Dakota.  They lived in Rolla, North Dakota for four years before moving to Jamestown, North Dakota.  Cecile and Les had eight children, one boy and seven girls.

Cecile worked at David’s House of Beauty and taught at the Town and Country School of Hair Design for more than 60 years.  Mom and Dad were active members of the Elks, Elkettes, American Legion, Legion Auxillary, Dance Club and the Jaycees.

Ceil loved people and was a vivacious host and entertainer making sure everyone was engaged and enjoying themselves.  She loved holidays for they were an opportunity for a family gathering.  The table was set with great detail and appetizers were a mix of standards like clam dip plus the newest culinary idea to welcome everyone home.  Mom was a great cook, her buns and fudge were the “very best”! She grew up on a farm and learned early that “everything is better with butter and cream.  She was the life of the party who will be sorely missed.

The annual family vacations were extraordinary whether a week at Lake Killarney, Manitoba or Lake Bemidji watching the Vikings summer practice, Mom made vacation a memorable event for all cooking all the meals in the cabin and watching the kids fish from shore and swim in the lake.

Ceil was a member of Trinity Lutheran for 65 years.  Her faith and her church were very important to her.

Later in life she took trips to California, Florida, Arizona, Hawaii, Sweden, Ireland, Mexico and Washington D.C.  A memorable trip was a visit to the home of Lawrence Welk and the DC office of senators Milton Young and Mark Andrews.

Cecile is survived by her children:  Rollie (Cathy) Morud, Bemidji; Debbie (Charles) Bartz, Wimbledon; Pam (Terry) Hansen, Jamestown; Margo (Keith) Brisben, Eaton, Colorado; Monica Morud, Fargo; and Robin (Kurt) Barkus, Jamestown; 14 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

Cecile was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Leslie; daughter Melissa; two brothers, Verner and Leland; three sisters, Ethel, Vera, and Aurora; and a stillborn daughter Julie Jane.

The family would like to thank the Staff at SMP Health-Ave Maria for the wonderful care given to Mom.
