Charles Borthwick

Charles ""Chuck"" A. Borthwick, 81, of Jamestown, ND, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at Jamestown Regional Medical Center.

Chuck was born in Eddy County, ND, on March 2, 1930, to Ralph and Catherine (Seckinger) Borthwick. He attended school at Lake Washington School in Eddy County. In 1952 he was inducted into the U.S. Army where he served two years in the Signal Corp. He was released from active duty in 1954, remaining in the Army Reserve until receiving an honorable discharge in 1960.

Charles married Gladys Haakenson on May 24, 1954, at St. James Catholic Church in Warwick, ND. In the fall of 1954 they moved to Wahpeton, ND, where he attended the State School of Science. He graduated in May 1956 with a degree in Radio Electronics and Television Servicing. Following graduation they moved to New Rockford, ND, where he went into business with long-time friend, Duane(Eddy) Mellum, opening Chuck and Eddy?s TV.

In 1961 the family moved to Jamestown, ND, where Chuck went work for Mike?s TV as a serviceman later becoming manager. He remained there until the business was sold in the late 1970s. He then went to work for Hi Acres Manor, employed as the maintenance supervisor. Following that, he worked in maintenance at the James River Correctional Center until his retirement in 1993.

Chuck had several interests including cooking?Sunday was his day to cook dinner for the family, always trying out new recipes. He was an avid photographer and took still and video pictures of every family celebration, his children and grandchildren?s sporting events and arts programs. Perhaps his favorite activity was to pack up the family and the equipment and go camping. Starting when the children were young, camping in tents; he eventually graduated to traveling in a small motor home as often as they could get away.

Charles is survived by his wife; his two sons, Bryan and Wade; two daughters, Louise (Mark) Diers, and Sandy (James Robinson); five grandchildren, Katryn and Hannah Diers, Chelsy and Colin Borthwick, and Andrew Hagen; one great-granddaughter, Kenadi Hetle; and one brother, Eugene (Evelyn) Borthwick.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Robert (Clarice) Borthwick; and three sisters, Mary (Joe) Eversvik, Leonore (Bernhard) Eversvik, and Florence (William) Wallace.
