Charles Jennings

Charles Jennings, 84, Edgeley, ND died at SCCI Hospital, Fargo, ND on Saturday, April 29, 2006.

Charles Phillip Jennings was born on October 2, 1921 at Plains, GA, the son of Phillip M. and Agnes (Salter) Jennings. He was raised and attended school at Stone Mountain, GA. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps after graduation and enlisted in the U. S. Navy in 1939. Charles served in the Pacific Theatre on the Cruiser, U.S.S. Nashville. He took part in the General Dolittle raid on Tokyo in addition to various other campaigns including the Solomon Islands. Charles and Hazel A. Lucille Haarsager Ness were married at Seattle, WA on September 8, 1945. Following his discharge in 1946 they moved to ND where he enrolled in a Barber School. They moved to Edgeley, ND in 1950 and established the Old Reliable Barber Shop. This shop was burned out in a large fire in Edgeley in 1952. He built new shop where he barbered until his retirement. Charles also drove the Lamoure County Bookmobile from 1974 until 1983.

Survivors include his wife, Fargo, ND; 1 son, Phillip (Bonnie), Golden Valley, MN; 2 grandchildren, Mary (Heather) McCarl, St. Paul, MN and Benjamin, St. Cloud, MN; great grandson Logan and 2 sisters, Barbara Redmond and Shirley (Robert) Brannon, both in Georgia. His parents and 2 sisters preceded him in death.

Charles is a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Edgeley, ND and a member of the VFW. He especially enjoyed fishing and golfing.


Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Edgeley, ND with Reverend Nels Lilljord officiating.
Visitation: 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Edgeley and 1 hour prior to services in the church on Wednesday with the family present.
Interment: High Prairie Cemetery, Benson Corners, Lamoure County, ND.
